Lullaby Land 2023: Devising Phase One

Lullaby Land the web-series reached a so many families worldwide, which inspired the Spellbound team to begin growing this anti-racist pandemic project into Spellbound's first new mainstage show in ages. Winter 2023, Jody Doo, former Spellbound Anti-Racist committee member and current Oversight Committee member, produced the first devising phase of Lullaby Land. Ana Cantorán Viramontes, a longtime Spellbound ensemble member and experienced Theatre for Young Audiences director, was hired to direct the stage version of Lullaby Land. Ana kicked off Phase One of Lullaby Land in the summer of 2023 at A.R.T NY with a team of 8 artists, exploring 10 languages and 4 instruments. Phase One concluded with a workshop sharing that was filled to capacity, of 2-6 year olds and their caregivers, who experienced Spellbound's first new work since the start of the pandemic. Click the video below to take a look into the devising workshop.

"Producer Jody Doo dives deep into what it means for Spellbound Theatre to actively incorporate anti-racist work into TVY and how as theatermakers, we can start children on a journey to embrace and celebrate diversity through multilingual productions." - TYA Today Magazine, September 2023
